In 2019, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church established a Memorial Garden alongside the church to serve as a sanctified location for the interment of ashes (cremains) in the ground. Phase I of a new landscaping plan will be implemented in 2022 and will build on the existing magnolia, azaleas, and camellia japonica in the area between the church and rectory. New additions will include white sasanqua camellias, cast iron plant, autumn fern, rosemary (selected for fragrance and symbolic of remembrance), and variegated hosta. A custom, limestone cross will be installed in front of the center window of this side of the church. Limestone was selected for consistency with the historic church which features limestone corners as well as a limestone Celtic cross at its peak. Limestone benches will be installed underneath the windows on either side of the cross. For more information about the Memorial Garden, please contact the Priest. |
