In 2019, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church established a Memorial Garden as a sanctified location for the interment of ashes (cremains) in the ground. A memorial board in the nave of the church provides the names of all whose ashes have been committed in the garden. The Memorial Garden is located on the west side of the church from the wall of the sacristy to the front of the building and is designed as a contemplative place of remembrance as well as a joyful place for fellowship.
In 2022, a cross, benches and new landscaping were installed and dedicated to the people of St. Mark’s. The cross is made of limestone, reflecting the limestone cornerstones of the historic church. The celtic design of the cross reflects the cross at the peak of the church. The base of the cross was designed to serve as an altar for outdoor services. New perennials, including white sasanqua camellias, cast iron plant, autumn fern and rosemary (symbolic of remembrance) were added to the existing magnolia, azaleas and camellias. For more information about the Memorial Garden, please contact the Priest. |
